# How to Plan Furniture MOQ, Samples and Production Lead Times

Learn what drives furniture MOQ and lead time, and how early decisions on materials, testing, packaging and approvals can keep a sourcing program on schedule.

MOQ and lead time are connected to much more than factory capacity. Material purchasing, color matching, packaging, testing and approval speed all influence the final production plan. Buyers can reduce uncertainty by discussing these variables before placing an order.

## What determines furniture MOQ?

Minimum order quantity often depends on the materials and processes required for a product. A standard frame with an in-stock fabric may support a lower quantity than a custom finish, exclusive textile or newly developed mold.

### Common MOQ drivers include:

- Fabric, leather, veneer and hardware supplier minimums

- Custom color-matching and finishing setup

- Molds, tooling or special production fixtures

- Printed cartons, labels and private-label packaging

- Efficiency of grouping products by collection or material


## Separate sample time from production time

Sampling includes feasibility review, material selection, prototype construction, internal checking and buyer approval. If the sample changes after review, allow time for revision. Production lead time should begin only after the sample, materials and order details are confirmed.

## Build an approval calendar

Set target dates for drawings, material swatches, sample review, packaging artwork and final order confirmation. Delayed feedback can affect reserved production windows and material availability, especially before peak shipping periods and major holidays.

## Plan testing early

If the destination market or customer requires performance, flammability or chemical testing, identify the standard during product development. Testing after production can create avoidable cost and schedule risk.

## Ask for a milestone-based schedule

A useful production plan shows material readiness, cutting, assembly, finishing, inspection and estimated shipment dates. Milestones help both buyer and supplier spot risks before they affect the final delivery.

## Information to share with your supplier

Provide the target order quantity, preferred delivery window, destination market, customization level, testing needs and packaging format. This allows the manufacturer to evaluate MOQ options and propose a more dependable schedule.
